Dear Mary, My best friend who goes to a different school is getting bullied all the time ever since she started middle school. She wants to stand up for herself, but she is scared the bully will hurt her even more than she is already. How should my friend deal with this bully? Thanks! Scared Buddy Dear Scared Buddy, Well if your friend is getting physically hurt by this bully, she must definitely talk to an adult about this issue. If your friend wants deal with this on her own, I recommend your friend sees the movie DrillbitTaylor. That movie will show her exactly what to do to deal with a bully on her own, with some giggles! You could also visit http://www.drillbittaylor.com/ and click High School Survival Guide. I hope this helped! Good luck, Scared Buddy. |

Dear Mary, I am a student at Geyserville High and I read in the daily bulletin that the district is having a toy drive. I really want to participate, but I’m not positive on what type of toys I’m suppose to bring. Do you have any ideas? Thanks! Helper in Need Dear Helper in Need, Well first, it’s awesome that you want to participate in helping others who are in need. Anyways, for the ideas for toys, I think that any toy that you would have played with when you were younger would be good. For instance, maybe a toy doll, a little kitchen table set, race cars, etc. If you need more information, go look for the student council president Joe Romero and he will give you all the information you will need about the toy drive and/or canned food drive. Good Luck! |

Dear Mary, I am a junior at Geyserville High and I tend to always not pay attention in class. I just get so bored so fast! My question to you is how do I get my self to pay attention more? Thank You! Daydreaming Student Dear Daydreaming Student, Well, there are a few ways to pay attention in class, while not getting bored to death! You could take notes in colored pens, and change colors every ten minutes! It looks cool, and adds some excitement to your notes! Also, try to writing up about 3 questions by the end of that class to ask the teacher at the end of the day. And lastly, try to participate as much as you can in lectures, class assignment, or any sort of work you do in class Hope this helped you! |

The world of off-road vehicles is full of gas, metal, and kicking up as much dirt as you possibly can. Generally, the categories of the vehicles range from the humble 50cc dirt bike to the lumbering monster truck to the well-rounded dune buggy. Many people stick to ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles) as they are heavier than a dirt-bike but less time consuming than a dune buggy, it is generally a better all-around machine. Many sports have been started because of these vehicles, mainly the 250cc dirt bike as these are the most agile and more unstable. The sport of Motorcross started as just regular races in the dirt and mud, then that became boring. To answer this problem, they started making jumps, and when that became boring riders started doing tricks. Now, we have started a new event that doesn’t even involve racing, it’s call “freestyle”. Freestyle is a large area with no set track, just a place full of jumps, obstacles, and anything else the “Event Host” wants in there. Many tricks like the Can-Can or the Heel Clicker are more easily accomplished and are awarded less points, while the dangerously advanced tricks like the Sidewinder (Where the rider pulls his legs to one side of the bike, lifting them over the handlebars, dropping them down again on the other side, and then pulling himself back to his seat) are scored high. Some riders actually do these tricks in sequence with a back flip or a front flip. Now the heavier vehicles like the dune buggy or sand rail don’t allow for such vertical action, they do produce more speed and horsepower. Most of the events that include these vehicles are race trials, where a rider is pitted in a windy track with four or more |

opponents. Generally these events are a lot faster, meaner, and otherwise more dangerous than Motorcross depending on which track it is taking place on. Most ATVs are not favored upon by racers as they are slower, but they can still hold their own in the world of competitive racing. They are used just as dirt-bikes are, just slower and bulkier. Favored by their ability to climb hills, a special event has been started conserving this, by the obvious name of the “Hill Climb.” A rider is put against one opponent and the first to reach the top wins. A simple goal, but sometimes deadly when put into action. Some riders flip their ATVs front over back, causing them to gain momentum at a rapid pace. Monster Trucks have to be the most action-packed class of vehicle out there. Designed to crush cars, an expensive sports industry has been built upon this, thousands flock to each event to view the carnage that will ensue. The truck is a twenty foot tall monster built on twelve foot tall wheels that are four to six feet wide. Many drivers build custom ones, the crazier ones have been known to create ones with a theme, and one truck ,“Tritec”, has been built to resemble a Triceratops. All in all, the world of off-road sports is as fun too watch as it is to do, I seriously recommend that anyone try one of theses awesome sports if you have the money. |
