Serving your community is important and we all need to help in anyway we can. Every student has to have at least 10 hours of community service a year In order to graduate. So you might as well get it done. There are a lot of opportunities to earn your community service hours. Some kids help out around the school with the sports managing the scoreboard, painting the lines on the fields or cleaning up the campus. One of the students that's helped out around the school is Tito Diaz. He has raked leaves in the parking lot and picked up trash, trimmed the bushes, and worked the scoreboard for the basketball team. Tito says that it makes him feel “nice and proud because I've helped someone else.” If you are looking for some community service or you need to know how many hours you have, talk to Mrs. Petersen. You can find her in the library daily from 12pm to 3:30pm. When I asked her for some suggestions she said "There's a Chamber of Commerce dinner on the 10th of every month and their always in need of students to serve. You can also go to the elementary school and help at the daycare center." |

More options include the Animal Humane Society in Healdsburg, and the Geyserville Fire Department can always use help washing trucks or other little things around the station. Finally if you go to a church they usually have projects you can help with, for example the Geyserville Christian Church. There is always something or someone that could use help and if we all do just a little then a lot gets done. We need to start working to help keep our towns clean and healthy. We all should do more then just our required hours for graduation, because there is never enough time or people to help out. |
