Follow Through with Financial Aid If you are planning to use some sort of financial aid such as loans, grants, or even scholarships, you should complete a lot of financial aid paperwork. This starts with the FAFSA, which is a federal-level form which establishes a file for you in the federal government system, but it doesn't end there! Each college has its own paperwork that establishes a file within that exact college. Each year, students meet a big surprise on move-in day, when they realize that their financial aid application isn’t complete. Students may complete some of the steps and believe they have done everything needed—in fact, they have not. Once you believe you have done everything needed when it comes to applying for financial aid, follow with a phone call to a counselor. Ask them exactly where you stand and if there will be a balance due on move-in day. Senior Year and College Mail During your senior year you will be bombarded with college recruitment mail. At first this is flattering, but eventually it becomes annoying. The problem is, students start to throw away everything when they become overwhelmed. This can be a big mistake! Once in awhile, some colleges will mail out information about scholarship opportunities that you hadn't expected and hadn't applied for. Small private colleges often do this. Why miss out on a great opportunity? Take the time to open your mail and do a quick evaluation before trashing it. Take college application seriously. If you didn't start your junior year, the beginning of senior year is when you need to decide which schools you will visit and which schools you'll apply to. Don't Procrastinate. Applying to college can be a very scary thing, but don't hide from it. The sooner you get to work on your applications, the better off you'll be. Don't take college application too seriously. Yes, college is important. But, no, applying to it should not take over your entire life. Don't let the stress and pressure get to you. http://ls.berkeley.edu/?q=undergraduate/preparing-graduate-school/step-step/senior-accepted |

This school year instead of having what we have done for many years, like UGH day or Field day we had House Olympics. This was really fun for the students, because they had to compete against other houses, in a variety of different competitions like egg toss, egg launch, balloon launch, hula hoop, obstacle course, and rally race. There was also supposed to be tug of war and slip n slide (students did not care if there was no competition going on for it they still enjoyed it and had fun on it). I was really upset because I was actually going to participate on the hula hoop but once all the students or at least some of the ones who were going to be participating were there, many of the competitions was cancelled. I was also part of the egg toss, with Keynan Meyers since we were partners we did pretty well, but we ended up loosing and Marcy and Jesus ended up winning and they are part of the Pena house. There was no competition for the slip-n-slide, and I was also going to participate in that too but I guess no any more, but since I really wanted to go down the slip n slide I did with Monica, Deanna and Stephanie, at first we didn’t even know how to slide but after a while we were pros. Even though the next few days we were sore and with many bruises it was worth it. All the activities were really fun. And something that I really enjoyed was the food. Judy, our lunch lady, prepared the best burgers ever, with the help of Mr. Pettis. There was everything available to prepare our burgers to make them delicious. For example you could add tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, cheese, lettuce, and of course, mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard. All these things added to the burger made it so yummy and delicious. |
