The sports awards were held on Monday June 1st in the open area. It was a huge success. There was a great amount of parents that showed up for their kids. Mr. Harjak and Mr. McClung, did a fantastic job making those delicious hamburgers and hot dogs. After eating, there was cake for dessert which was also very tasty. In between breaks the raffle was going on and those whose names were drawn won trips and tickets to all kinds of different events. The boosters have done so much for the school and have made sure we are well taken care of.

Tennis

Ms. Bertolucci, and Mr. Klug, announced their tennis team, and their awards. There were a couple stories for each individual and all we could do was laugh. Coaches Award went to Nikki Strotroen, one of the two seniors on the team. All-League was presented to Petie Bensin, Luke Gevas, and Nikki Strotroen. Most improved player was Kelsie Jones, a freshman coming into play for her first year and received an award! MVP was Petie Bensin and Luke Gevas. Scholar Athlete went to Nikki Strotroen. They did a spectacular job and worked well together. Congratulations to you all.

Softball

Jose Flores announced his softball team and their awards, right after the tennis team. Coach Flores had something to say for each player as well, and it all ended with laughter and smiles. All-League was presented to Lindsay Harjak, Jocelyn Hale, Cassandra Schuman, and Marcy Flores. The Coaches Award was given to Cassandra Schuman and Marcy Flores. Most improved was Lindsay Harjak; coming up as a freshman and doing what she did for the team was extraordinary. Scholar Athlete was awarded to Macy McClung, *****MVP was given to Jocelyn Hale; One of the two seniors on the team. Jocelyn Hale was there for the team when they were in need and pulled through the season doing a fantastic job not only pitching but hitting and fielding as well.

Good job to all the athletes and continue your hard work and effort. We hope to see all of you playing a sport next year and keeping those grades up to receive a Scholar-Athlete Award.  Thank you to all the coaches, the Boosters, parents who’ve volunteered, and everyone who made it possible for students to enjoy playing sports.

Despite the rain and fog in the beginning of June, it is now officially Summer and you all know what that means! Time to go to the ballpark. Even if you aren’t a Giants fan it’s still fun to head out with the family to AT&T Park for a day of ballpark wieners and maybe a homerun or two. Every Giants’ game is an action packed, on the edge-of-your-seat kind of game.

Instead of giving you the down low on the Giants’ season (by the way were 25-24 and still in 2nd in the standings) I would like to give you some tips for having a great day at AT&T Park:

Get there early if you drive or take the ferry in Marin.

a. Get good parking or have a nice walk along the piers.

b. Have a tailgate party before the game. Its fun and you meet lots of nice people.

c. Check out McCovey Cove and take a picture with the Willie Mays statue in the main entrance.

d. No matter where you are sitting, walk all the way around the park to take everything in.

e. Before you find your seat I’d advise you to use the lavatory and/or get something to drink (I always bring water with me; the food and drinks are expensive, but you can reuse the cups at home).

f. Enjoy the game!

g. Get some famous Garlic Fries and listen for the Dibs man (you can here him on TV when you watch the games!).

h. At 7th Inning stretch, check out the merchandise and food venders, also check out the “giant” mitt in behind the right field wall (it is made out of fiber glass and supposedly filled with garbage!).

i. After the game is over don’t regret it, even if your favorite team lost. It’s a fun experience to share with your friends and family.

Also if you go to a night game, know how to get out of San Francisco because you don’t want to take a wrong turn like my Dad did last summer and find yourself down a street you really don’t want to be down!

Just have fun! And bring a glove, just incase a home run heads your way! And have a great summer! Oh yeah, and vote for Bengie Molina to be in the AllStar Game!
