Fashion Tips

Linda Mercado

Many people most likely know a lot of these rules to fashion and maybe even once or twice you have passed on an outfit because you heard black and blue shouldn’t be worn together. A lot of these rules have been around for a while. You probably ask yourself can you were white after Labor Day? Can tall women wear high heels?

Black and blue often get a bad rap because the shades can be so close and it’s hard to tell them a part. Well you can work your way around that with a few tips; accessorize, contrast, and brighten up. So let’s say you’re wearing skinny denim jeans and a black sweater by adding red heels and red lipstick is simple enough to make your look a chic one. When you wear navy and black you should play with tones of your clothes. Wearing a white shirt underneath a navy blazer with a black shirt it will trace the outline of color variety which will make your “your outfit look intentional instead of accidental.” One situation where you should NOT mix your blues and blacks is in a formal outfit because blues and blacks are more for informal outfits.

Another myth that is said is that women who are tall shouldn’t wear heels but that’s absurd. Heels have another purpose besides making you look taller, they are meant to make your legs look great! Heels add a strut to your walk and give any outfit class. Ladies if you don’t have a problem with your height then why should any else?

Short women should never wear long dresses is based on the idea that showing leg helps in a visual manner to make your body look longer. But that does not mean people who are shorter need to forego long dresses. Pencils skirts below the knee, long dresses, and tea length dresses can be sophisticated and just because you’re short doesn’t mean you have to pass them up. Try pairing a long dress with some wedge sandals to give you a few extra inches or putting up your hair to make your neck look longer. You should also look for a dress that “plays up a long leg-to-waist proportion. But the most important tip is stand up straight at all times!

Matching your shoes with your belt or purse is a myth that is fading away. The fact is that there are way too many cute shoes and cannot all be matched perfectly with a purse or belt.  Shoes, purses, and belts can be a statement of your outfit. The trick is to find hues on the same color family. Just try to put colors together and combining them works best for many outfits. “The general rule is to make sure you don't come off too colorful, like a parrot in heels”. “There is one exception to this matching myth, and that's formal attire. Matching your shoes with your belt or purse can give you a more polished look if you're dressing for a classy occasion (though it's not required!).”
