The tennis team had a game on Tuesday April 13 against RVC at 3:30. They played a great game but unfortunately lost. The Bronchos were out-matched by the RVC Eagles5-0 with number two single, David Hadley, putting up the best game with a 2-6, 3-6 loss. RVC tennis is one of the best in the CMC division. Our Bronchos may face some of their players in the CMC Tournament coming up Friday April 30. The team will travel to Ukiah that day to compete against all the teams in the league. Coach Bertolucci and Coach Klug will accompany the team. On Wednesday April 14, the game against Calistoga was unfortunately cancelled due to inclement weather. The game has been rescheduled for Monday April 26 at the Geyserville High courts. The last time we played Calistoga on their courts we defeated them 4-1. Calistoga players are fairly matched with our team and makes for an interesting game. On April 16, we played against Summerfield-Waldorf, a new addition to our league. At that game, the Bronchos defeated Summerfield 4-1. The one loss was to their number one single player who also had defeated RVC’s single #1. This guy is someone to watch out for in the coming tournament. The softball team had a doubleheader on Friday April 16th at home against Potter Valley. They lost both games. But the girls gave it a great effort. This season the girls have had a few injuries but are fighting strong to finish the season off! Marcy Flores was injured and was not playing for sometime. Cassandra Schuman was also hit on the head by a softball and was not playing for awhile due to a concussion. And the most recent injury is Zoë Ottoboni with a broken ankle who is out for quite some time. She had surgery last Monday at Healdsburg hospital and is now recovering. Let’s hope that no other girl gets injured because the softball team lacks players and cannot afford anymore injuries. Speaking of which, I have heard the softball coaches have been looking for girls to join the team this season. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played; trust that the coaches will teach you what you need to know. Go out there and give it a shot!! |

With the world cup only two months away, expectations are growing. People all over the world are asking who will be the next world cup champions. As the competition draws closer and closer people are speculating that Spain, the number one ranked team in the world according to FIFA, will be the next champions. Spain has a strong argument to win the world cup with the best midfield in the world. Xavi Hernandez(Barcelona) and Cesc Fabregas(Arsenal) are two of the best midfielders in the world. The mix of experience and youth make Spain’s midfield one of the most dangerous midfields playing in South Africa this summer. To strengthen Spain’s chances of coming away with the trophy is their strikers. With David Villa and Fernando Torres up front, if in optimum form will be an attacking force to watch out for. A team that has been questioned since the beginning of the South American world cup qualifiers is Argentina. And since Diego Armando Maradona has took charge in management they have been hit hard by the press. But they have players that could make the difference at any point in any game. For example, they have the best player in world football today often times being called “greater than Diego Armando Maradona”. Lionel Messi with speed, superb ball control and an amazing teammate could make a difference. Being accompanied up top by Real Madrid Striker Gonzalo Higuain who is having an incredible fourth season with the whites scoring 25 goals in 33 games this season alone has earned a spot in South Africa with Argentina. Together both strikers have netted 52 goals this season alone with 5 games left to play in Spain’s La Liga. They will be the best scoring strike force present in South Africa, so the Argentines are not to be taken lightly. As most of the soccer leagues in the world come to an end the players prepare for South Africa. With most of them not wanting to risk any injuries that would pull them away from the competition, they take days off to make sure they make it to the world cup in optimum form. The world cup is of great level competition with the best players in the world playing against each other. This is a small list of soccer players to watch out for in South Africa: Lionel Messi(Argentina), Cristiano Ronaldo(Portugal), Kaka(Brazil), Xavi and Iniesta(Spain), Wayne Rooney(England), Micheall Essien(Ghana), Didier Drogba(Ivory Coast), Frank Ribery(France), Andrea Pirlo(Italy), Arjen Robben(Netherlands), and for our side Javier Hernandez(Mexico) and Landon Donovan(USA). The world cup will be an amazing tournament and will have the world on their toes. This has been the World Cup Soccer Update. |
