The Geyserville Basketball team left on Thursday, the 3rd of December. Our girl’s team was lucky and left at 12 o’clock. The boys had to wait till 3 pm because their game was later in the day. Jamie, Mrs. Paquette, and Mr. Bensin drove the vans to Pescadero. It took us about 2 hours to get there. On the first day, after we arrived, we watched the other teams playing, that way we could determine their strengths and weaknesses. 11 Teams made their way to the tournament this year. A lot of them were familiar from the previous years. The girl’s team played at 6.30 against Point Arena, and for the first time we won the first match. The boy’s team wasn’t as lucky as we were, and lost their game. It was late when we got to our host families. The entire boy’s team stayed in one house, and the girl’s team in another. Our families have been very nice and they even prepared food for us. The hot tub in the backyard was a joyful experience every evening. It was nice to relax in our houses after the exhausting games. On Friday we slept until 8 AM. We got ready and went to the boy’s game to cheer them on. Obviously it worked well, because they won their game against Pescadero. Afterwards the girl’s team lost. It was not even close, but we tried our best. The games have been in the morning so we had the rest of the day to ourselves. First, we had a nice lunch in a Mexican restaurant, right next to the gas station. Our coaches have been really nice and paid for the food. It was delicious and with full stomachs we drove to the beach. It was cold and windy, and we had a beautiful walk along the coast. After 6 o’clock we separated and went to our houses. We all dressed up for the dance. After Jamie’s final, check if our outfits are appropriate, we left and drove to the hall where the |

When I was a child, the 6th of December was a very special day for me. In the evening before this day I would clean my boots and put them in front of my door so that “Nikolaus” can bring me candy and little presents. Dirty boots are unacceptable. Children polish their boots to show they’ve been good. They usually place just one boot outside their door so they don’t appear too greedy. Of course it is very hard to fall asleep on the 5th because everyone is excited. Very important questions are going through children’s minds: What will I get? How much? Did I put out the biggest boots? The custom began because the historical St. Nicholas had a reputation for leaving secret gifts, such as coins, in people’s shoes overnight. St. Nikolaus knows exactly how you have been over the year so he can decide if you get your presents or not. If not, you can try to behave better, so that you will have the chance to get presents the next year. According to the legend, “Nikolaus” comes in the middle of the night on a donkey or a horse and leaves the little treats in clean shoes of nice children. Naughty children will find a switch in their boots so they know they don’t deserve a present from Nikolaus. In other families, a man disguised as St. Nicholas will visit the family or the child’s school alone or with his with his sinister-looking helper Knecht Ruprecht to question the children about their behavior. Parents tell their “behaving” children that if they continue as they did but without misbehavior there would be hope for some very nice gifts for Christmas. As a result you find the nicest behaving children in the world during that time. The tradition of Nikolaus goes back to a saint of the Catholic Church: Nikolaus was a bishop who died on the 6th of December, 345A.D. He was generous to the poor and especially to children. Though they have similar outfits, Nikolaus is not to be confused with Santa Claus, who Germans call the Weihnachtsmann, or Father Christmas. www.wikipedia.com |

“Hoop Dreams Dance” was located. Macy and Lindsay were the first on the dance floor. Afterwards everybody followed and had a good time. The DJ was not really the best and it happened that the music stopped in the middle of the song. Anyways, after two funny hours we left and had a good night sleep. The last day, Saturday, came quickly. Our games were in the afternoon so we had a lot time to pack our stuff together in the morning. A nice breakfast gave us the energy to start the day. The boys lost their constellation game so they left the tournament with sixth place. The girls made their last game and won the trophy for 3rd place. It was an exciting game and everyone tried to do their best to win the last competition. Marcy Flores and David Hadley won a medal for being the best players from the team. The time arrived to return home. Some parents came to watch the games, so we had a lot of room for all the athletes in the vans. On our way back to Geyserville we had dinner at “In & Out” burger which was a nice ending to the adventure. At about 8:30 pm we arrived at the school and made our way home to our families. The team had a great time and we were all proud to be part of the Pescadero Tournament. |

The Hood is a criminal. The Hood gained power from a mysterious hood and boots he took off someone that attacked him who he ended up killing. This isn’t a story for Christmas time obviously it’s a story for January when you see how much you spent during Christmas. Ultimate Spiderman sounds like a good topic to write about this month. Now Ultimate Spiderman is a new take on the original Spiderman’s story. This series started in 2000. Peter Parker (aka Spiderman) is still in high school and is only sixteen through out the whole series even up to now (2009!) Apparently years don’t pass the same in this story. The story concentrates more on juggling being Spiderman, being in High school, having a girlfriend, and saving the city in the process, and all the problems that come with those responsibilities. Peter has been through a lot throughout the story from The Green Goblin throwing his girlfriend Mary Jane off the Brooklyn Bridge, to his deceased father’s “cure” for cancer infecting him turning him into a monster (which he eventually got rid of), then a man named Curt Conners took a sample of Peter’s blood and attempted to clone him which created another monster that appeared to have killed Peter’s friend Gwen Stacey, then Dr. Ock actually cloned Peter making six clones (three which were all genetically messed up, one girl version which turned out perfect, and a older version of Peter which he led Peter to believe was his father. All of the clones eventually died except the girl and one genetically messed up ones.), and then after all that a crazed mutant made a tidal wave crash into New York killing millions of people even Spiderman…. Not, but it almost did. Peter Parker now six months after the tidal wave Ultimatum, works at a fast food place in the mall. Peter now going out with Gwen Stacey is very happy with his life. Since Spiderman was deemed a hero in the Daily Bugle everyone loves him now. The cops who used to shoot at Spiderman now they ask for his autograph. Peter still lives with his Aunt. Gwen Stacey and Johnny Storm live with Peter as well. Life is going pretty good for Peter. But with Mysterio, a red cloaked mystery villain, and the Kingpin’s sudden death the outlook of Peter Parker’s future is looking very, very messy. |
