Americans are consumers. As a nation we take much more than we give, growing more and more dependent on other nations for products of import, such as foreign oil. This problem has been visible for a long time, though not a lot is changing in the average American’s lifestyle. Even with gasoline prices easing upward, California’s top price at 3.80 a gallon, I still see huge Suburban SUV filling the freeway. How exactly can our country contribute to the planet’s well-being and their wallets if people still believe “bigger is better”? “Earth is going to be destroyed! Save yourself!”
What if I were to tell you that you can do it, save yourself I mean? Would you listen to my advice? Invest in some good shoes, comfy clothes, a bus pass, and either a bike or skateboard. Let your car take a vacation in the garage for a while. Buy some energy-saving light bulbs, wood for your fireplace [if you don’t have one, get some blankets] and a timer for your shower. I do believe that everyone is doing a little bit toward conserving the resources that are rapidly disappearing, but we need more. If we as Americans don’t get our act together environmentally, in the end we will have…nothing. www.californiagasprices.com |
