Chapter 3 The Hunted

Chapter 4 The First Blood

Behind The Scenes: First Blood

Chapter 4 is definitely foray into introducing the concept of war in my book, including the beginning of the side conflict into my book as it pertains to the main conflict, Jon’s struggle. Through this chapter, I focus intently in introducing a very important character, Sarah Jennings, while concealing her behind elaborate action set pieces. This chapter, along with a few after it, is very action oriented while still driving the story forward to Miltibar, the capital of Katan.

Well, this first major point I’d like to point out is the war beginning in this chapter. At first, it begins with one subtle attack on a Katan outpost among the forests to the south of Miltibar, while the official indication I let on it the helicopter being shot down over the outpost. Most of the chapter involves the rescue of the helicopter pilot from the crash site, though the gunner is killed. Jon and the group get into the first scuffle between two Bruiskian soldiers who had been left behind by the main force, forcing the group to fight them off.

Sarah Jennings, the pilot, joins the group after they contact Jericho Warwick, an officer in the Katan Military. Eventually, Jon, through a radio in the deserted outpost, makes a deal with Jericho to both deliver the stolen dragon’s egg to Jericho and bring the pilot to Miltibar. Shortly afterward, the pilot begins a lack luster relationship with the group after finding out they are former pirates, giving a cold shoulder to Jon. I expand on this comically in future chapters.

I rely heavily on action to help keep the reader interested and as a quick way to get the group to Miltibar as quickly as possible, so to reduce boredom. I do this through a car chase, though not a classic one, this one involves both sheep, tanks, and a variety of explosions, though it isn’t as absurd as it sounds.

Generally, the content in this chapter is lacking in the story aspect compared to other chapters, it defiantly helps pave the way for future action pieces.
