Mexico Trip

Jennifer Reyes

My name is Jennifer Reyes and I just came back from a wonderful trip to Mexico. I stayed in Mexico for a month and a week from the 14th of December to the 17th of January. I had to complete an independent study contract for the days I missed so I wouldn’t fall behind. I visited several places in Mexico like Jalisco, Colima, and Mexico City.

In Jalisco I visited two different places, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, and San Nicolas. In Guadalajara there is a proximate population of 1,579,174. Guadalajara is known for the birthplace of the Mariachi music. There are several cultural festivals, like the May Cultural Festival, Fiestas de Octubre, which take place in an auditorium called "Auditorio Benito Juarez", where several entertaining events take place. Face painting, is one of the traditional activities provided at this event.

Guadalajara has many traditional dishes, such as pipian, pozole, tamales, sopes, enchiladas, tacos, and tortas ahogadas. There are a lot of tourist attractions like the Cathedral, Degollado Theatre, Plaza de los Mariachis. I stayed in Puerto Vallarta for a few days. There was a lot of art sculptures and sand sculptures. There also were a lot of tourists taking pictures of all the things they saw.  It is very hot and beautiful there. The beach was very warm, sparkly, and blue. In San Nicolas is a small ranch in Jalisco. There isn’t much to do there except feed the chickens, cows, sheep. San Nicolas is a relaxing place because it is very quiet. It is a very agricultural place. They harvest corn and maguey. There was a lot to do with so little time.

In Colima you can go paragliding, take expeditions to the volcano and caves, go diving, surfing, and go to amazing historical places. The climate here is always warm!! Very warm! When you are out of the city, everywhere you look you see palm trees that extend to infinity! There are 2 volcanoes here!! A little scary.. but I like it here because it’s always green and hot!! When it rains it isn’t cold, it’s warm.

In Mexico City you can take a trip to Teotihuacán. Teotihuacán is the third largest pyramid in the world. Mexico has a variety of styles of buildings. I got to go on top of “Torre Latinoamericana”, Latin America's first skyscraper. The city looked very pretty at night with all the lights. To my surprise when I visited Mexico City the air didn’t look that contaminated. The sky was actually blue!! Mexico City has an estimate population of 18,131,000. It’s huge. If I were there alone I would be lost, but luckily I wasn’t.

I really enjoyed my stay. There wasn’t time to take a deep breath because there was a lot to do. In June, as soon as I’m out of school, I’m going back to Mexico! J

Mexico City at night.
