Behind The Scenes: The Snag in the Road |
|
Chapter 5 is, basically, my introduction to the main action of the story and the more overarching plot line in the Second Bruiskian-Katan War. Though it is only a taste, it is certainly a sweet one, despite the fact that I lacked on intensive dialogue and instead focused on my action to tease the reader into my future chapters. Generally the entire chapter is just one big chase scene, with the exception of the ending and beginning, but I also include some details to the war effort from the point of view of Captain Jericho, the military man that Jon contacts in the last chapter. I begin with their departure from the camp I left off in chapter four, after they procure a vehicle and escape towards the Katan farmlands to the north, on a road to Miltibar, the Katan’s capital. Unfortunately, they are still unaware of the full scale of the Bruiskian invasion of Katan, only having seen the small outpost before. On their road to freedom and getting their records wiped clean, the group races across the farmlands only to stumble upon an armored Bruiskian platoon regrouping with a contingent of paratroopers. To withhold a few details, the chase involves multiple, brutal crashes, at least five close calls, and it ending with sheep, that’s right, I said sheep, you can read the chapter to find out what I’m talking about. Now with Captain Jericho, he is forced to command much of the Katan Military in defense operations after the King and his council, including his generals, are forced to flee into the palace bunker. He, along with his technical staff, reveal the exact extent to how far the Bruiskians have invade. Practically all the major cities have been attacked, Bruiskian Navy and Airforce deploying troops across Katan. I also introduce a new character to the mix, though he is not as important as Jon. Gabriel is a soldier in the Katan army and I follow his small adventure in defending a mall from Bruiskian forces, though it ends sorrowfully. Despite this, I have some very intense and gory scenes involving many of my twists to the basic run-of-the-mill war stories. Now back to Jon, the dragon finally begins to hatch, and the group shares a moment with the rather irritable pilot as the hatchling reveals itself. The small, black scaled dragon quickly identifies Jon and I go deeper into this latter in the story. The dragon wasn’t just a bargaining chip; it is much more than that. By the end of the chapter, we see Jon and his group of mismatched and beaten down comrades reach their target; the logging town of Marks. There they wait for the Captain’s helicopter he promised them for extraction to Miltibar. Unfortunately for them, it is not all it seems in the town of Marks, wait until the next chapter and I’ll have more action and deeper dialogue awaiting you. |
