At the last moment, my host family and I planned a two week vacation to Hawaii. The end of January had come and with it also our trip to the Aloha state. Alaska airlines brought us safety to the airport in Maui from where we took a rental car to our condo. The condo was part of a big hotel, which was placed right on the beach. The view from the balcony was fabulous and we even had a couple of chances to see jumping whales. The sun was shining all day long and it got really hot. The first day on the beach already left a little tan mark and after two more days I got sunburned. I still enjoyed a lot of warm and relaxing days on the ocean. We went to the big needle as well, which is a mountain in a tropical environment. The huge differences between the landscapes on the island are great. One time you drive through desert, one |

time through the tropics and another time it’s the beach or the volcano. There is a lot to see for everyone. To make my staying even more unique I booked a diving trip and surf lessons. The diving came first. three diving constructors and about 10 people, including me, went out in the ocean on a boat. From the boat we got our equipment and the diving could start. I saw a lot of nice shining fishes under water and two big turtles passed by as well. The most exciting moment was when we were diving under the sunken ship, where two big sharks were lying. I stopped and watched them for a while, but those guys were just too lazy to move. The surfing trip was fun, too. I didn’t do too badly on catching the waves. The 10 minutes technique on the sand helped to understand the concept. Sunny B, my surf teacher, had to help me a few times because the paddling in the water was so exhausting that my arms had to rest. After two hours on the surfboard I got the surf certificate. Surfing in Hawaii was always one of my dreams and now it actually came true. The rest of the time in Maui was just as awesome as the surfing and I hope I have the chance to come back one day. |

Spring is the transition period between winter and summer and one of the four temperate seasons. In the Northern Hemisphere, spring runs from March into June, and in the Southern Hemisphere it runs from September into December. Spring is also the tropical cyclone season in both hemispheres, although it is delayed longer in the North Atlantic Ocean than the other ocean basins.
Its days are close to twelve hours long with increasing day length. But how do we feel and see that Spring is coming? You can feel a big change in the weather because it is getting better everyday and it seems like nature awakens from a long sleep. Spring is also called the season of growth. Trees and flowers start to bloom and animals in nature pair up to have babies. Spring is the best time to raise babies because there is enough food for everyone. It is a season to grow, to produce, to begin and to appear. We also celebrate Easter in Spring. Easter, like the spring season it graces, is associated with birth, renewal and fertility and it is also the most important festival of the Christian Church. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_(season) |
